Know Where You Stand Before the Audit Starts
Most SaaS companies don’t fail SOC 2 audits because they have bad security. They fail because they didn’t know what was missing until it was too late.
A cybersecurity gap assessment gives you confidence upfront. You'll see exactly which controls are in place, which ones need work, and what evidence you're missing - before an auditor ever looks at your environment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a cybersecurity gap assessment take?
That depends entirely on your organization’s goals and its capabilities. We ascribe to the timeless aphorism “garbage in, garbage out”, so likely the larger the undertaking, and the better you want to set yourself up for long-term success, the longer it will take. In practice, most often we see remediation periods between 1 and 12 months.
What's the difference between a gap assessment and an actual SOC 2 audit?
A gap assessment is a practice run. We identify issues so you can fix them before the audit. The audit itself is the formal examination that produces your SOC 2 report.
Do we need a gap assessment if we're already using Drata or Vanta?
These platforms can provide good content templates and a great way to organize control management and automate evidence collection, but they can’t tell you how an auditor will evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of the controls in practice. A gap assessment removes guesswork and gives you confidence that your setup will hold up under auditor scrutiny.
What if we find a lot of gaps?
That’s actually the point. Better to know now than during the audit. We’ll prioritize findings so you can tackle the critical stuff first.
Can you help us fix the gaps you find?
If we are performing the external audit, our consulting services are limited to pointing out gaps and communicating our expectations as clearly as possible ahead of the audit.
However, if you engage Render Compliance solely for consulting services, we provide turnkey compliance management services, including consulting, implementation, and ongoing maintenance and audit support.
How soon before our audit should we do a gap assessment?
Three to six months out is ideal. That gives you time to fix issues without rushing. Tighter timelines can work, but you’ll have less room to maneuver.
For more complex organizations, the larger ship takes longer to turn, and you may need up to 12 months or longer to prepare effectively.
