Frequently Asked Questions
What is SOC 2?
SOC 2 is an evaluation performed by a qualified CPA of an organization’s controls as they relate to standard criteria. These criteria center fundamentally around information security principles, but may extend to cover other areas as well, including availability, confidentiality, processing integrity, and privacy.
Why do SaaS companies need SOC 2?
Most B2B SaaS companies pursue SOC 2 because their customers require it. Enterprise buyers, especially in regulated industries, won’t sign contracts without proof that your security controls are independently verified.
How long does a SOC 2 audit take for a SaaS company?
Timeline depends on your readiness and the type of report. Companies with mature security programs and good documentation can move through the process quickly. We’ll give you a realistic timeline during our initial conversation.
Do you work with compliance automation platforms?
Yes. We have experience auditing through SecureFrame, Drata, Vanta, TrustCloud, Anecdotes, and similar platforms. If you’re already using one, we work directly within that system.
Does the SOC 2 report have an annual renewal requirement?
No.
You may get a new SOC 2 report as frequently as you want. However, end users will typically reject the report if it is more than 12 months old, so the convention is to complete the SOC 2 examination at least annually.
What if we're just starting our compliance program?
We can help you understand where you stand with a gap assessment before jumping into a full audit. This gives you time to address issues and makes the actual audit smoother.
Do you audit AI and machine learning controls?
Yes. As AI becomes more integrated into SaaS products, customers are asking about governance and security around those tools. We can incorporate AI-related controls into your SOC 2 scope.
Are there any audit risks unique to SaaS?
To name a few: multi-tenancy requires purposeful segmentation, architecture, and monitoring. Shared responsibility blind spots can create supply-chain issues, and increased deployment speed and automation increase the need for accurate configurations, change management gates, and release monitoring.
Can I post my SOC 2 Report on my website?
No. Sorry.
The AICPA guidelines allow for sharing the report with current or prospective customers, or other knowledgeable users of your service.
